Braces for Kids
Types of Braces Available for Kids:
- Metal: Metal braces consist of high-grade stainless steel brackets and wires. This is the traditional type of braces.
- Ceramic: Like metal braces, brackets and wires are used to correct the alignment of teeth. The difference is that ceramic braces use white ceramic brackets for a more discreet look.
- Lingual: Lingual braces also use metal brackets, but are placed at the back of teeth, leaving the front brace-free. However, this type requires extra attention and care when brushing and flossing.
- Invisalign: This type uses customized clear aligners that shift your teeth into the correct position.
Sports With Braces
Playing sports with braces could be a risk if you do not have mouth protection. Dr. Jennifer may recommend that you wear a mouthguard when playing sports to protect both your braces and your mouth from any damage or injury.
The Timeframe for Kids Braces
The timeframe for teen braces varied by patient, depending on what bite issues you may have. Most teens need to wear braces for 12 to 18 months. Regular visits to Dr. Jennifer’s office is necessary for check-ups and adjustments.
